THE SMALL BUSINESS GUIDE
When a customer asks AI who to hire, does it say your name?
The web is no longer just search-driven.
It's becoming answer-driven.
This is how small businesses get found, trusted, and recommended in the age of AI.
Paperback and ebook, out November 2026.
Written for local, service, and owner-led businesses.
AI ASSISTANT
Who should I call for a roof leak in Silver Spring?
BUSINESSES NAMED IN THE ANSWER
1
A competitor down the road
2
A franchise three towns over
3
A shop that opened last year
_
Your business
NOT MENTIONED
Illustration only. This doesn't search anything. It's what the answer looks like from your customer's side, and the whole job of this book is moving that last line up into the list.
WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE WHEN IT HAPPENS
A customer two miles from you needed exactly what you do.
She didn't search. She asked, the way she asks about everything now. She got three names back, called the second one, and booked.
You will never know this happened.
There's no missed-call notification for it. No form that didn't get filled out. Nothing in your analytics, because she never reached your site. The work went somewhere else, quietly, and your week looked completely normal.
NINETY SECONDS
Don't take my word for any of this. Go check.
1
Open whichever AI assistant you use.
2
Ask: "Who's the best [what you do] in [your town]?"
3
Then ask it to describe your business by name.
Whatever comes back is the honest answer to whether you need this book. Most owners have never done this once. Your result will tell you more than any claim I could make on this page.
WHAT CHANGED
You are not competing for a click.
You are competing to be named.
Search gave customers a list of links. An AI assistant gives them an answer.
With traditional search, being easy to find was often enough because the customer compared the options. Now AI assistants do more of that sorting for them. Your business is either included in the answer or it isn't. There is no second page of results to fall back on.
YOUR CUSTOMERS ARE ASKING CHATGPT, CLAUDE, AND OTHER AI ASSISTANTS QUESTIONS LIKE:
Who's the best piano tuner near Bethesda?
I need an IT company that can handle a 30-person office.
Which family doctor near me is taking new patients?
Who can come out today for a roof leak?
Is there someone local who still works on older HVAC systems?
The question is: does AI know enough about your business to include you in the answer?
Does it understand your services, your service area, your specialties, your hours, and the kind of customer you're actually the right fit for? Does it recognize what makes your work distinctive, and know when your business is exactly what someone is looking for?
If it can't answer those confidently, it will name someone it can.
This is how small businesses get found, trusted, and recommended in
the age of AI.

The Ten-Minute Door Check
Before anything else: can an AI assistant actually read your website? Most owners have never checked, and a surprising number of sites are quietly locked. Four checks, ten minutes, no developer required. Plus a plain-English script for what to ask your web person if something's wrong.
One PDF.
I'll also email you when something in the method changes; leave any time.
WHAT'S ON THE PAGE
Four checks that tell you whether you're even in the running
1
Read your robots.txt for search-bot blocking
2
Ask your web person the one security-settings question
3
Confirm your homepage text exists in the page source
4
Run your core facts through a structured-data validator
FOUR WAYS IN
Do it yourself, or have it done.

INSIDE THE AUDIT
A document, not a dashboard.
I go through your live site, your page source, your structured data, and the third-party profiles that describe you.
Personally, one at a time. Every finding is something I saw and can point you to.
Anything I couldn't confirm is labeled unconfirmed rather than quietly dropped. Anything you told me that I couldn't independently check is attributed to you, not stated as fact.
You get a clear, implementation-ready report you can hand to whoever does the work, including me if you'd rather not.
Audits will open in limited numbers after the book launches. Join the waitlist for first access when appointments become available.

WHO'S BEHIND THIS
Chelsea Edwards
My background spans technology, marketing, communications, and small-business operations. I worked in technology and ran a small technology company before co-founding our family piano-services business. In under a year, I helped the new business move ahead of long-established piano-service brands in online visibility. That experience showed me that reputation still matters, but only if digital systems can find, understand, and verify it.
The idea for Become the Answer started when I asked ChatGPT which businesses in our industry it would recommend, and saw respected companies missing from the answer. I wanted to understand why.
That question grew into the NAMED Method, a practical system designed to help owner-led businesses make their public information clearer, more consistent, and easier for AI assistants to understand. It isn't about gaming an algorithm. It's about making sure good businesses are not overlooked simply because they are harder to find or describe.
The businesses I work with are service companies, trades, shops, and clinics. The kind whose reputation was built in person, and never fully made it online.
CHANGE NOTICES
I'll email you when something actually changes.
No schedule, and I'm not going to invent one. Platform behavior shifts constantly and most of the advice online is a year stale, so when something I've written about stops being true, or something new is worth your afternoon, you'll hear from me. Some months that's twice. Some months it's nothing.
Unsubscribe in one click. I don't sell or share the list, and I don't email to stay visible.
